The conversation around television we should be having now is international. The U.K. is an important territory in the influence it has exterted with its own productions. It's also one of the top stops a film makes on the way to global box office domination. Moving into to these countries is a few more large steps for Netflix.
With 48 million subscribers, Netflix lags behind HBO's 130 million suscribers worldwide. Impressive is revenue Netflix generates, which is on par with HBO. Inflexiblity comes in the form of operating income, of which HBO has four times the money Netflix generates in that regard. Still, one can only wonder how long it will be before Netflix cracks 100 million subscribers.
Packed inside that drive to 100 million is an exciting possibility of shows that could be even more niche, edgy and outside of the box as they can speak to fans around the world.
Neflix is already available in 40 countries and has 48 million members worldwide. The latest European expansion follows launches in the U.K., Ireland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden in 2012 and the Netherlands in 2013.
