Turning "I can't" into "I can" can be a very challenging endeavor - not only for people who have any sort of disability, as I do, but for anyone living in this world. The voices around us can sometimes be too quick to declare "you can't," or "you are in some way limited," and those voices sometimes teach us to utter the same demeaning words to ourselves. But self-belief (and support from loved ones) can be a very powerful thing. I gave this TED talk at TEDx Stanford almost a year ago, in 2013, and even the step of agreeing to do the TED talk was an exercise in choosing to embrace a self-enabling mindset. Check it out.
