Is Instagram a new type of massive online photo exhibition? Or merely a new social media fad full or pictures of what you had for dinner? In the era of digital perfection it’s seems many photo enthusiasts are hating Instagram and retro-filtered photos, but not photographer Anthony Lepinary.
I agree with Anthony - mobile photography and social media tools such as Instagram can be a brilliant lab where you can test things out, gather feedback, identify trends. Smart phone camera is always with you and thus - if you use it regularly - you constantly train your photographer's eye. In fact, inspired by this article I have just released my (albeit rather small at the moment) Instagram gallery to the outside world (http://instagram.com/gayeta75).
New challenge for 2014: it is time to start using my iPhone camera phone for other means than a replacement of a scanner... :-)
Instagram is a medium, a way to share work, passion, daily life... burgers... or great shots. 'Traditional' photographers really don't have to be afraid of this new medium. Democratisation of photography can only be good news for everyone! A good photographer will always be a good photographer, it's all about stories you'll tell. And certainly not about technical skills or material! Regardless of where you going to exhibit your work (newspaper, gallery, website, Instagram, a book...), talent and sensibility are the points.
