Reports are out today that the UK's top companies now have 25% women board members. This is certaintly an increase and positive move when we consider that this figure was only 12.5% in 2011.

However, when you take into account the fact that discrimination laws are almost 40 years old we do have to ask is this a big enough step?

It is positive to see the Government giving this further consideration and suggesting proposals to support gender equality. However, we will need to wait to see if the new proposals such as sharing data regarding pay and setting a target of 33% of women board members at FTSE 350 firms by 2020 are implemented and what impact they have.
