The festive season is approaching quickly, heralded this week by the launch of Christmas Advertising. John Lewis's contribution, a tear-jerking story set around an elderly man who lives on the moon is a poignant reminder that Christmas is not a happy time for all. The advert has been made in association with Age UK to raise awareness of the loneliness suffered by those living in isolation when many of us are busy celebrating with friends and family.

The charity reports that one million older people will not have spoken to a friend, family member or neighbour for over a month. The charity provides support for people in this situation. It also gives us all cause to think about whether there is somebody who we can visit or speak to this Christmas.
