Excellent interview with Fergal at Highland who highlights why Europe needs to focus on its strengths rather than its weaknesses compared to Silicon Valley. I agree. It would also have the side benefit of stopping all those endless panel debates about the problems with Europe.
"Even if we matched the US dollar for dollar and euro for euro in investment, it would spread to London, Berlin, Munich, Stockholm, Paris, Barcelona and Dublin. That’s life. That’s Europe and I think it’s great. You’re going to see a different kind of tech scene in Europe than in the US and we have to embrace that for what it is and not always compare ourselves to the Valley.” A part of that is changing the negative rhetoric on Europe, which can make too much of comparisons with Silicon Valley and instead focus on the strengths of the region. “I’d like to start changing talk of Europe to be more in the positive than negative,” he says. “There are significant benefits for entrepreneurs for it being that way.”
