This week Ed Sheeran announced - on social media, I must add - that he was 'taking a break' from the medium so that he can see life through his own eyes instead of through a screen (or words to that effect).

I have conducted my own experiment recently, by deleting the Facebook app from my iPhone and iPad so I don't look at it so frequently. The main tangible outcome is that I managed to offend a friend by not turning up to their party - having missed all the usual prompts.

The bottom line is that technology is so ubiquitous in our lives today - whether it's ordering a cab, date (!), checking the weather or doing our jobs - that it is impossible to contemplate life without it. I guess the intrusion that's inherent with living in a connected digital world is a price worth paying.

Have a Merry Christmas and treat yourself - turn your phone off for the day!
